Vacation Dreaming

Bonjour,

This past summer, Brian and I went on a little weekend vacation up north to Tobermory. It was absolutely breaking-taking and we can't wait to go back!
I thought I'd share these pictures with you and show you how beautiful Canada can be. I look forward to exploring many more hidden jewels in my own backyard :)

Brian and I are also planning a trip to Europe this summer (Portugal, Spain, France, Monaco and maybe Italy). However, both of us are in the process of getting new jobs (exciting!) so hopefully we can still go on vacation!

Falling into Fall

Bonjour!

I am not usually a fan of cold weather but as the seasons change I can't help but feel a sense of renewal. I love the rich colors of fall but I especially love the smells as I walk down the street. The smells of that chill in the air and of wood burning; it can't be beat.

After a Sunday Brunch, my sister and I did a little shopping and stopped by the park to take a little walk and take in the sights and smells of fall.

This was the perfect time to bring out some of my fall purchases (more of those later)

I become alive in the sunshine....

Bonjour!

Today has probably been one of the best days of the year so far for me! The weather in Toronto had been so crappy lately and we finally had some sunshine. I decided to have a little picnic with my boyfriend and everything was so beautiful, I instantly felt so happy as the sunshine was shining on my skin.

The trees have started blossoming and I has super excited to come home and see that my shoulders were a little red...... summer is close!!!

We stopped by the Cheese Boutique and picked up some awesome cheeses, prosciutto, figs, lemonade and a baguette and we were good to go. One of the simplest and best meals that I've had with my favourite person in the world!

I found these beautiful Ruthie Davis Mary Janes on Bay for $150 (a steal!) and I was excited. I was even more excited when I found another pair of Ruthie Davis Patent Leather Booties too! ( I will debut them later) They are actually very comfy but the only drawback is that the heels are 5 inches so they are a bit hard to walk in so I'm gonna have to train my feet to walk in these puppies.

"Where do trends come from?"

With Fall/Winter 2011 fashion weeks coming to a close around the world, I thought I'd share this article that I found about trends and how they come about. Enjoy!

"Every runway season, designers across the world show similar colors, fabrics and silhouettes that become known as the trends of the moment. For autumn/winter ’10, for example, the collections were one big blur of beige, while spring/summer ’11 was all breezy, diaphanous dresses. How is it that so many creative visions align?

Designers purchase their fabrics from mills, which show new collections twice a year at fairs such as Premiere Vision in Paris and Pitti Filati in Florence. The fabrics that are highlighted usually end up on the runways. “The fabric mills show colors, yarns and proportions to all the designers,” explains Kevin Carrigan, Global Creative Director of Calvin Klein. “From these fabric fairs, designers begin to decipher the major global trends of the season with each house interpreting the inspiration in it’s own way and putting their spin on the fashion zeitgeist,” he explains.

The colors that the fabrics come in are often influenced by a handful of color trend services such as Peclers Paris and Nelly Rodi whoconsult with the fabric mills. These companies hold seminars and create concept books that predict trends up to six years in advance.

Once a collection is shown, there is a whole copy-cat cycle where designers will mimic what they see being done by fashion leaders such as Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz and Phoebe Philo among others. Thus, as was made famous by Meryl Streep’s tirade in “The Devil Wears Prada,” a color like Cerulean Blue can travel from the catwalks of Paris to a Casual Corner near you after the course of a few years.

To trend or not to trend?

Whether or not the fashion world’s trend cycle is good for creativity, is a source of debate. “The rapid dissemination of information via the Internet, social media, and streamed live fashion shows facilitates the instant travel of trends,” says Tamara Albu, Director of the A.A.S. Fashion Design Program at Parsons School of Fashion in New York. “For many designers who struggle to stay competitive, getting their hints from such sources, processing them as quickly as they can, and translating them into their own collections often results in redundancy and lack of trust in their own self expression,” she adds.

Anniversary Brunch

Brian and I just celebrated our 3 year anniversary but as we are in the middle of midterms, it's hard to really celebrate. We will be going a little vacation as soon as school is done but in the meantime, we decided a little brunch would be a good way to celebrate.

We went to a place called Bar One and it was aAMAZING!!! Not only were the prices very reasonable (nothing over $12 for brunch) but the food was out of this world! I had Ovo Buco ("egg in a whole") and Brian had Roast Beef Benito and we split them both!

A few days ago, we also explored our city a little bit. We took a little walk to Brookfield Place, which is beautiful and I never even knew it existed! It's so amazing all the hidden gems you can find in your city. So, this summer I will make it my mission to explore as much of my city as I possibly can! I will post about all the places I go and put up my own city guide at the end of it. Unfortunately, this will have to wait until the weather gets better and I'm done school. For now, I'll just share some pictures. I took these with my phone and the pictures don't do the place justice but it's still beautiful nonetheless.

V Day

I hope you all enjoyed you Valentine's Day, even if you don't have a significant other. If you don't have a significant other, this day is the perfect to love yourself and indulge. Be it a shopping trip, getting your nails done or a full out spa day and you don't have to buy a present for someone else. It's okay to be a little selfish sometimes, because if you don't love yourself.... who will?

However, if you do have a significant other... I would first like to mention that you don't have to do something overly sappy and spend a lot of money... going for a simple walk in the park and spending time with your loved ones is a perfect alternative to me. The only thing that I dislike about this day is that it's become so superficial but that's the way society works sometimes. Don't set great expectations because you might end up being disappointed which is the opposite of how you want to feel on Valentine's Day.

I, of course, am a hopeless romantic and love all the cheesy stuff. Brian and I will be celebrating Valentine's Day and our 3 year anniversary a little later since we are super busy with school and of course, it had to fall on a Monday this year. I did get some nice flowers though.

I did celebrate with one of my friends and made her a little dinner because her significant other is unfortunately out of the country. It was a quiet evening filled with Prosceco (my new favourite drink) and heart shaped pasta.

I hope all of you enjoyed this day but remember, you don't need a special day to tell someone you love them. It is the spontaneous and daily acts that really make the difference.

Winter Wonderland

Toronto has been having some major snow storms recently and I decided to brave the cold and go out for a walk after a coffee and dessert date. It's very unlike to go outside when it's this cold (-20C with the windchill) but the snowflakes looked too beautiful and I couldn't help myself!

Why doesn't anyone get dressed up anymore?

Bonjour,

I went out the over night for some drinks for my boyfriend's birthday and I got all dolled and put on a nice dress and it got me wondering... Why doesn't anyone dress up anymore? What's wrong with looking nice and pulled together?

I've been faced with this problem before and find that sometimes I feel overdressed. It's not a good feeling with you have a bunch of people giving you dirty looks or starring when you hear heels. Every day I see people walking around in sweatpants and even PYJAMAS and think to myself.. Do these people not care enough about themselves to look presentable?

This is not about caring what other people think about you but you need to realize that people will automatically judge you on your appearance. Whether you like this or not, it's reality unfortunately so why would you not want to put your best foot forward?

Even in a simple place such as university, your professors and fellow peers will take you more seriously when you are dressed for the part. Having a good relationship with your professors can pay off big time when it comes to reference letters and job opportunities, trust me! AND it's just as easy to put on a pair of jeans as it is to put on pyjamas!

So, from now on when I go out and see people dressed very sloppy I will no longer think I am overdressed, it is them that are under-dressed!

During my winter break I also plan on making post about all of my going-out outfits. I will get all dolled up in my best attire just to hit the point home even more! It's not about appearances at all, it's about feeling good. And when you feel good you look good. There are days when I don't want to get up out of bed but it is these days that I force myself to put in a little bit of extra effort into myself to lift my spirits!

Enjoying the cold?

Bonjour,

I just got back from a very cold day that I spent grabbing some lunch with my boyfriend, Brian, at Nadege. I could go on about Nadege, a French Patisserie, forever and forever but since I've done it so many times, I'll spare you the details and just share the pictures of my amazing meal.

I had a cream of mushroom soup and a chicken sandwich and Brian had a grilled vegetable sandwich with a potato, bacon and broccoli soup. They were really good but the star of the show was the dessert!

I had a vanilla pana cotta flavoured with maple syrup called..... Marie Antoinette. It was probably the most amazing dessert I've had at Nadege. It tasted like really good vanilla ice cream and it looked amazing!

After our amazing meal, we went for a nice walk around Trinity Bellwoods to burn off all calories. Anyone that knows me, knows that I hate the cold and I complain ALL the time about how cold it is but lately, I've been enjoying the cold weather and all the pretty snow. This is partly due to the fact that I've been keeping warm with my TNA jacket and my Holt Renfrew cashmere gloves that have these pretty diamond-like buttons on the sides. Double socks and lots of layers are also key. I'm starting not to like my TNA jacket anymore but it does keep me very warm and next season I will save up for a beautiful Mackage jacket (I can't wait!)

Closet Organization 101

The long awaited guide to closet organization is finally here. I've taken all the tips I've learned throughout the years and a lot of different sites and put together a guide that I feel works! So let's dive right in:

1) Accept it: No matter how big or small your closet is, you need to realize that this is the closet you're stuck with so try and make the best of it! I would love to have a dressing room as opposed to a tiny closet (and one day I hopefully will) but I don't ..... so I tried to make my closet work for me.

2) Have a plan: When you do decide that you want to re-organize your closet, you must have a plan! Set a specific date (preferably a weekend) to do your mini-reno. If you are putting up a new organization system like I did, you need to measure your closet. Bring these measurements with you when you are going shopping as this will take out the guesswork.

OR you can do all this at home! How you ask? I found a Virtual Closet Organizer on the Rubbermaid website that is amazing! This tool allows you to re-create your closet virtually and lets you decide what to put where. Here you can decide where your hanging rod will go, whether or not you want shelves, baskets, shoe racks etc. This of course will be based on your needs. I knew I definately needed two levels of rods as my closet is quite small and I also knew I wanted shelves... these are the types of things you need to keep in mind!

3) Take everything out: Now that you've decided how your closet will look, it's time to get to work! I'll admit, when I read other closet tips, I thought to myself, do I really need to take EVERYTHING out? And the answer is: YES! You really need to take everything out and see what you have and what you are going to put back in. Divide everything into 4 piles:

1. Keep: all the clothes that you've worn in the past year

2. Donate: things that still have life in them but maybe you don't like or they don't fit anymore

3. Store: out of season clothing and clothing for future use

4. Toss: get rid of items that are worn, have stains or holes

4) Put it back together: Now that you have a blank canvas, the fun really begins. If you can, it's nice to give your closet a fresh coat of paint, if not give it a good cleaning. When it comes to putting it the rods and the shelves, get some help. I got my dad to help measure and install the whole thing so it made things a little easier for me. You don't want the whole thing to come crashing down so it's best to get someone who knows about structural support, levels and drills.

And now you can put all your clothes back in. Organize your clothes in whatever way best works for you according to color, style season, tops, bottoms etc.

It is also important to invest in some quality hangers. Wood works best as they are very sturdy. Ikea, Winners and Wal-Mart have very affordable options. Pick different hangers for different clothes: regular for tops, notched for straps, bottoms and all-purpose.

5) All the nicknacks: My delicates, loungewear and sleepwear all go in a dresser while my sweaters and folded in my closet shelves to avoid sagging. I put all my off-season clothing into white Ikea boxes at the top of my closet. I would highly recommend these boxes as they are inexpensive, very sturdy and help your closet look cohesive. I also put my accessories into white wicker baskets so they are visible. Garment bags are also helpful for storying jackets and dresses however make sure that they are not plastic!

It's also a good idea to set aside a spot for the next day's outfit as this will save you a ton of time in the morning. I don't always pick out my outfit the night before but when I do my special spot is a hook behind my door.

I found these amazing drawer organizers that I use to keep my socks and undies organized (I found these at a place called Space Age Solutions and Dundas and Royal York, they were about $10 each). I keep my hosiery in clear plastic ziploc bags to avoid an snags.

6) Shoes, shoes, shoes: Because I don't have too much room in my closet for a shoe rack, I keep my tall boots in my closet with these awesome boot shapers I found. I keep the rest of my shoes in a shoe rack that you can keep behind a door for everyday shoes and the shoes that I wear less often are kept in boxes.

One last thing, you might be wondering why I have no doors on my closet? This is because I hate sliding doors. I don't like not looking at my whole closet so I'm putting up a rod with some thick white curtains so that I can open the curtains and see my whole closet. I'll be doing this in the next couple of days and show you the results.

Wheww! It feels so good to finally have my closet done :) Up next, my dressing table which is almost complete and then I will reveal my whole room as well as my redecorating budget!

"Never mind the tame name. Vivienne Westwood’s London, a one-hour documentary produced by FashionTelevision and premiering on CTV on Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., is a trip and a half, a magical mystery tour of one of the design world’s most active minds.

The program is also an inventive and entertaining travelogue that stops by places both familiar (the National Gallery) and unexpected (the gravesite of the first actor to play Hamlet). But that’s not the reason Westwood agreed to five days of non-stop shooting. She did it to promote her conviction that culture — which entails a love of art and a faith in human genius — represents not only the first step in walking tall but also the last hope against the forces of consumerism, conformity and climate change.

Always intellectually inclined, Westwood, last week by phone from her London studio, reiterated her long-held belief that the clothes we wear on our backs matter less than the heads we carry on our shoulders.

“The thing is, if you become an art lover, you also become a freedom fighter. Nothing will ever blow you away. You should get engaged in trying to understand what the danger is from climate change, inform yourself about what the scientists are saying.”

Ever giving voice to complicated and difficult thoughts, Westwood is never less than a vision to behold. Not being able to see her, I have to ask what she’s wearing. Westwood, who turns 70 this year, tells me that she has on a knitted catsuit, with buttons from the crotch to the top. “And then, platform boots.”

In no time at all, however, Westwood steers the conversation toward more edifying matters. The catsuit is made from wool. Wool has fallen out of fashion favour to the point that British farmers are not shearing sheep any more. Prince Charles is leading an initiative to get people to wear wool again.

Drawn to causes, Westwood is a revolutionary also known for ribaldry. She has used her recent collections to foster an awareness of the work of James Lovelock, the British scientist who forecasts that by the end of the century the planet will be mostly uninhabitable. At a show of her women’s collection for spring 2011, she presented necklaces she designed for Reprieve, an organization that works on behalf of political prisoners.

Still, she holds on to her sense of humour. Last Sunday in Milan, when she presented her men’s collection for next fall, she was less serious. A nod to the Royal wedding that is so much in the air, she offered her vision of the fantasy bridegroom, a fellow in baggy pants and lipstick.

In the documentary, Westwood reveals a similar range of interests. In one sequence, she is in awe of high culture, enjoying the 18th-century French art at the Wallace Collection, one of her favourite London museums. In another, she visits Hampton Court, once the home of Henry VIII. Particularly fascinated by the workings of the kitchen, which have been recreated, she encounters a food historian wearing period costume. Noticing a bump under his apron, she seizes the opportunity for a quick lesson in 16th-century tailoring and asks him how his tackle fits into his codpiece.

It’s typical of Westwood to seek instruction from history. “People shouldn’t be rushing around trying to find the latest thing, because there isn’t anything. The latest thing isn’t happening,” she says. “If we had more people realize that we are the past, then we might get something happening today.”

New Year New You

Bonjour!

My sincerest apologies for being away so long but sometimes life takes over and it's hard to find time to do anything. With a New Year comes many resolutions and this blog is one of mine! I'm moving rooms and redecorating so I will definatly share the progress with you. I've already picked out a paint colour and have made most of my purchases so now it's a matter of just putting everything together.

I'm super excited because this past year has been very difficult for me so it's time to turn over a new leaf. Every new year, every new year I feel recharged and ready for new beginnings! That make-up post is still coming up, as promised, I'm just waiting until my room is done to show you guys as I just purchased a dressing table that I'll putting all my make-up on!

Give me a sign

Bonjour,

Sorry for the delay in posting but I'm in the middle of studying for exams so expect a lag in posting until December 10 (my last exam :) ). I do have a make-up post coming up as promised but before that I need to do a little venting. Any student will tell you that post-secondary education is not easy. Sleepless nights, cram sessions, giving up your social life and barely seeing your family are just some of the many things that a student has to go through in order to do a decent job on their studies and even that is not enough sometimes. My fourth year of university has been by far the toughest and I'm having such a hard time motivating myself to study.

This is not because I don't like what I'm studying. As hard as accounting is, I actually do like studying it, as weird as it may seem. With the way things are in the economy, job prospects are slim to none. While things are starting to improve, why I am wasting at least 4 years of my life and a whole ton of money to get a piece of paper that has become so insignificant?

A while ago, having a university degree pretty much guaranteed you a job, but nowadays, everyone has a university degree and its become a little obsolete. With all of this in mind, you can see why I've become so discouraged.

Despite all of this, I am trying my best to get through this semester. I think it's important for people to accept their failures, learn from them and move on. If you beat yourself up, it will only make you do worse and worse and worse. It's a vicious cycle! So what if you don't graduate on time and so what if you happen to have a bad class or a bad semester or a bad year. SO WHAT! It's no big deal. There is always next year!

Looking at yourself in the mirror and telling yourself that it's okay to make mistakes is actually quite liberating and will actually make you want to do better and become a better person. I try to instil this in my sister. If there is anything I want her to learn is to have self confidence! It's so important in life, especially for young teenage girls.

Thanks for letting me rant. I feel so much better already and I only hope that I've inspired at least one person.

Foggy Days

If you're living in Toronto, you'll know that we've had some serious fog. Although, fog may be a little creepy to some people, to me it is beautiful and mysterious. While I was unable to quite capture the beauty of the fog with my dinky camera, I got a few pictures in and spend the entire day cooking.

I had purchased a Tart pan and a Madeleines pan the other day from Williams Sonoma and I couldn't wait to test them out. I first heard of Madeleines on the movie the Transporter and had purchased them before but I couldn't be bothered to buy the pan to avoid clutter. But, since I can't find any Madeleines for sale anymore, I must make them myself.

I found the recipe on Joy of Baking and it is super easy! I also made a Goat Cheese, Tomato and Arugula Tart which was also super easy! I just baked up a standard pastry crust, added arugula, tomatoes and goat cheese and presto!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Bonjour,

Christmas is by far my most favourite holiday! I love it not because of all the gifts but because you get to spend time with your most loved ones and it is the only thing I look forward to during the long and cold winter season. With that said, I'm almost done my Christmas shopping! This was completely unintentional as I didn't go shopping with buying Christmas gifts in mind... it just kinda happened. Random shopping trips led to finding the perfect items for my family and friends. PLUS, Holt Renfrew was having a promotion so I couldn't resist. You got 25% back on a gift card on anything you spent and 15% on cosmetics.

I was running low on my YSL foundation so I decided to pop in and boy did I get some goodies :)

I kind of ended up with a lot of gifts for myself (whoops!) but that's what Christmas shopping is for! I picked up my YSL foundation which is silky smooth, has SPF and looks like I'm wearing nothing. I also picked up a limited edition face highlighter which is the best thing in THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! It was so good that I went back and picked up two more (as they are limited edition). It just wakes up your face without being overtly sparkly and I got compliments on my skin and makeup all day long. I also finally picked up the Shu Eumura Eyelash curler in a little kit but enough ranting, I will have a makeup post coming up soon.

The best gift that I found were these little Truffles in the most adorable packaging. I'm not sure who the lucky recipients are going to be, but they were so cute I couldn't resist. They are great stocking stuffers and the best part is that they were very inexpensive. If I got one of these I would certainly feel very special!

I will be back very soon to share with you some of my cooking and a makeup post will follow that.

Beautiful Fall Days

Bonjour!

I just love Fall. All the beautiful colours and the fact that it's not too cold just yet. I especially love walking around in the Fall and just taking in the scenery. This is what I did last week after I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at Creme de la Creme with my sister.

As I mentioned before, my sister accidentally dropped my phone in a pond :( but I managed to fish it out. While it's still not working, I managed to retrieve the pictures that she took of me :) (Mini photographer in the making)

Sorry I've been MIA, again! I was in the middle of midterms and it has been one of the worst weeks in a very long time, but you know what they say, "when it rains, it POURS". Anyways, I went out for brunch the other day with my sister and stopped off at my favourite park to take some pics and my sister accidentally dropped my phone in a pond :(. I managed to fish it out and hopefully it will dry and I can show you the pictures. In the meantime, I made a Tumblr account! I have a little confession to make: I dislike shopping. Now, don't panic. This doesn't mean that I hate shopping, it just means that I only like to shop under certain conditions.
1) Mall must be uncrowded. I hate shopping in crowded places. I usually shop in the mornings because the stores are usually tidier and much less crowded
2) Shopping Solo. If I actually go shopping with an objective in mind or to buy a particular item, I go alone. This might seem strange as alot of people shop with friends in order to get a second opinion, but I just prefer the piece and quiet of shopping by myself: taking my time if I need to or just popping into a store for a quick look.
3) No change rooms. I really dislike change rooms especially in the winter! I'm usually pretty good at guessing my size (In some stores I'm a 4 and some 6 and some a small and some a medium.... you get the point) and if a particular garment will look good on my body type.

All of this leads me to shopping online: You must be wary and really read the details of the items you are shopping for but you do get some good deals!

SO: I've been doing alot of eBay shopping and here are some of the items I've picked up.

And la piece de resistance:

I've been wanting this baby for the past year but it's been sold out everywhere! I finally found it at the Saks Fifth Avenue website. I have to say this website is amazing especially for us Canadians. It changes your total to Canadian funds and also calculates your duties and taxes before you pay so that there are no suprises! I think this is a great feature and more websites should have this. This ring cost $195 and it came to $237 CDN with shipping and duties and taxes which isn't too bad in my opinion.

I've also purchased a lot of hosiery that I will do a post about. My orders have just arrived and I can't wait to wear them!

Bonjour!

It's been a while! Again! The first weeks of school have been super hectic and the last year of Accounting is by far the hardest so I've been having a hard time getting adjusted to everything and keeping a steady schedule... but I am working on it! Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have most things straightened out.

I did want to share some pictures I took a few weeks ago. It was a hot humid day and I went out for brunch with my sister and then went to one of my favourite parks to snap some pics and walk around. This park is called James Gardens and it really does have beautiful gardens. See for yourself!

I am beyond words excited about this news that I am about to share with you! I just heard (and it has been confirmed) that Lanvin will be collaborating with H&M for a winter line. November 20th will be a Saturday which means I am booking the day off work and standing in line to get my hands on this collection! I've never stood in line for any of the H&M launches but I might just have to for this one. I try to avoid mall traffic at all costs nowadays. I try and shop in the mornings when the malls are much quieter and staff is alot more helpful. This is easier for me because I go to school downtown and Eaton Centre is at my doorstep. Sometimes I'll even make the walk over to Bay and Bloor (good exercise!).
I will report back once the pictures/video has been released with the collection on November 2nd. I am tres excited!!!!!!!!

Obsessed with.... Italy!!!!

Last night I went out for dinner for some Italian food.... my absolute favourite!! I went to this place called Cafe Nervosa in Yorkville and we got to sit on the upstairs patio which was absolutely fabulous, not to mention that the food was great!

However, this post is not about the delicious meal last night, it is about the real reason why I love the book "Eat, Pray, Love". Before I get to that, I might as well share my outfit with you. I wore my favourite skirt and dressed it down a little with some flats and a semi-sheer t-shirt.

The reason that I love this book so much is because I love food and I love Italy. I've always been interested by its culture and I've been infatuated by their language. I've always thought that Italian is most beautiful language and I didn't know why, until I read it in Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I want to share this exert from the book with you to help you understand why Italian is such a beautiful and seductive language:

   "As I will find out over the next few months, there are actually some good reasons that Italian is the most seductively beautiful language in the world , and why I'm not the only one who thinks so. To understand why, you have to first understand that Europe was once a pandemonium of numberless Latin-derived dialects that gradually, over the centuries, morphed into a few separate languages-- French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian. What happened in France, Portugal and Spain was an organic evolution: the dialect of the most prominent city gradually became the accepted language of the whole region, Therefore, what we today call French is really a version of medieval Parisian. Portuguese is really Lisboan. Spanish is essentially Madrileno. These were capitalist victories, the strongest city ultimately determined the language of the whole country.
   Italy was different. One critical difference was that, for the longest time, Italy wasn't even a country. It didn't get itself unified until quite late in life (1861) and until them was a peninsula of warring city-states dominated by proud local princes or other European powers. Parts of Italy belonged to France, parts to Spain, parts to the Church, parts to whoever could grab local fortress or palace. The Italian people were alternatively humiliated and cavalier about all this domination. Most didn't much like being colonized by their fellow Europeans, but there was always the apathetic crowd that said, "Franza o Spagna, purche se manga," which means, in dialect, "France or Spain, as long a I can eat."
   All this internal division meant that Italy never properly coalesced, and Italian didn't either. So it's not surprising that, for centuries, Italians wrote and spoke in local dialects that were mutually unfathomable. A scientist in Florence could barely communicate with a poet in Sicily or a merchant in Venice. In the sixteenth century, some Italian peninsula needed an Italian language,, at least in written form, which everyone could agree upon. So this gathering of intellectuals proceeded to do something unprecedented in the history of Europe; they handpicked the most beautiful of all the local dialects and crowned it Italian......
   So it's really no wonder that I want so desperately to learn this language"

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Oh and P.S. A little secret: I might be planning a little (well two months to be exact) trip all over Europe which you guessed includes ITALY, Portugal, France, Spain, Greece and maybe some more. I don't want to jinx it which is why I'm saying MIGHT. Fingers Crossed!

Feeling inspired.....

My last year of university is fast approaching and while I am extremely nervous as this is a very important year for me, I'm also excited. This is a chance to get organized, stay on top of my school work and kick some academic butt!

I also have a huge announcement to make: I finally signed up for some Yoga classes!!! I've been wanting to try Yoga for the past 2 years but I've never gotten around to doing it; it's never 'fit into my schedule'. But, I finally found a class that's compatible with my hectic school schedule and I'm very excited to start! I'm taking an introductory Kundalini Yoga class and then I'll be taking 6 weeks of beginner Ashtanga Yoga. I'll report back once my classes start, which is in September.

As I mentioned before, I've picked up some books for my summer reading and I am loving two of them:

The first book that I am in love with is The Style Strategy by Nina Garcia. I am a student.... which means a very limited budget but I have been cursed with very expensive taste! I can literally walk into ANY store and you bet that the first item I look at is probably the most expensive thing in the store! I have been not-so-smart with some of my purchases and I needed a change, not only for my wallet but for myself! I realize that fashion is purely a luxury and that I don't have to have everything I see and follow all the latest trends.

There is nothing wrong with following trends for some people, but for me, I don't care what the trend is, if it doesn't look good on my body..... I'm not buying it! By reading this book, I've realized that I already own most of the fashion basics and all I have to do is make some small purchases to compliment what I already own. My goal for this fall will be to make a few key purchases on things that I NEED and not what I want (because I want way too many things). I'm not saying I won't splurge on certain items, but these will be small items, maybe a nail polish of a nice lipstick here and there. All I am really in need of this fall is lots of sweaters (cashmere will be needed as it is the only thing that keeps me warm enough through these cold Canadian winters) and maybe a pair of boots. I already have my eye of a couple of boots that are to die for and aren't overtly pricy but.... since I don't need them just yet, I will save up for them!

Now onto my second book: Eat, Pray, Love. I fell in love with this book within reading the first 20 pages. It's such an honest book and while reading the book I often found myself relating to the author, especially during her darkest moments. I haven't finished reading the book yet, but I admire the way this woman found the strength to find herself BY herself. The reasons why the I love this book will remain for another post but for now, I have to get back to reading so I can go see the movie!

P.S. Rule of Thumb: Always the read the book first before seeing the movie!!

Sisterly Love and Stuck In a Rut

Bonjour!

I haven't made any posts lately and there two reasons:

1) I've been crazy busy with work and running a bunch of errands

2) I've been stuck in a little rut (a fashion rut and an emotional one)

Needless to say it hasn't been my month so far but hopefully some positive thinking will change that :)

I wanted to share some pictures with you that I took a while ago when my sister and I went to Nadege. Yes I have a little sister! Her name is Jorda, she's 11 and absolutely gorgeous! (AND she loves shopping and eating as much as her sister!). She's a very bright and mature girl for her age and she never fails to amaze me everyday!

I don't get the chance to spend as much time with her as I'd like to so when summertime comes along, it's a treat for both of us that we get to go out more.

Now.... back to my rut dilemma. I've been in a fashion rut lately and I get into this rut every time this time of year . This is because I've already worn all my spring/summer outfits and find myself lacking inspiration. Of course, I have a few favourites that I wear quite often and I actually like re-wearing some of my favourite outfits. I've seen alot of blogs that only posts outfits once but I'm not sure I like that idea. First of all, being a student, I don't exactly have the budget to wear something just once. Even if I didn't have a budget, I'm not sure I would want to. I love the feeling that I get out of pulling together a killer outfit that I feel great in and why wouldn't I want to wear those outfits again. However, there are times when I look in my closet and I see NOTHING that catches my eye... it's a very frustrating feeling. I'm just waiting for the Vogue September issue to come out so I can get some inspiration.

A new school year (my last year of university!) is also coming up. A new beginning also filled with fear but as my mother says: Nothing good in life comes easily!

I've picked up a few books over the summer that I finely got a chance to read and they have me feeling a little perky again and I will share those with you very soon! Also, I finally got a chance to organize my room, my bedside table and my desk (pictures to follow) and only my closet is left... my biggest challenge.

So, I will share the books I've been reading as well as my room organization and I will have a huge closet organization post.

Taking it easy.....

Bonjour!

I recently got my wisdom teeth pulled so I've been taking it easy. Work takes up alot of my time so I like to go for alot of walks and enjoy this beautiful weather we've been having!

There are times when I like to be busy and have a hectic schedule but lately i've just felt like going for long walks on the beach.. I mean streets plus it's great exercise! I've been meaning to sign up for a Yoga class but I've been procrastinating a little bit but there is a workshop in August so I'm hoping to attend that. In the meantime, I've been trying out some Yoga poses on my Wii Fit. I'm very good at the sun salutations but I suck at the tree and I can't wait to unlock some more Yoga poses.

I've finally managed to organize my desk and all my books and up next is my closet and my nightstand. For some reason everything ends up in my nightstand drawer and it's overflowing so look out for those posts coming up soon!

Bonjour!

My sincerest apologies for being away for so long! I do have some excuses that I will share with you however:
(1) School :( .... yes I did take a summer school course but it's over now and I can enjoy the rest of my summer (sort of)
(2) Procrastination- I am the worst procrastinator EVER! Probably my worst quality which I am working on changing

To make up for all the missing posts I did take a bunch of pictures! My summer up until now was filled with a trip to Florida to visit some family, some dinner dates and ALOT of coffee dates and walking around in parks (my favourite activity in the summer!). A little under the weather

If you're a Torontonian then you know we've had some beautiful weather this past week and as soon as I finished my exams I got sick! I've been trying to enjoy the weather as much as I can but my cough attacks aren't helping! I was however able to go for a late night stroll with a friend and grab some tea from Starbucks. I noticed that Starbucks changed their teas a while ago and they now come in fancy cloth bags. But I just feel like they taste different and in a bad way :(

In the winter/ when I'm sick I swear by their Calm Tea, I even bought boxes of it to keep at home, it is so soothing! Their Zen Tea is very good as well. But ever since they changed their teas I've been so disappointed!!! I couldn't even finish drinking my Zen Tea the other night. Why fix it if it ain't broke? Starbucks: Please being your old teas back!!!! I'm now left with 2 calm teas bags (the original) and I'm saving them for special occasions tehee! Despite all this, I still love Starbucks and I still go there everyday I just won't be buying their teas anymore.

It was a beautiful warm night but I still decided to bring a little sweater.

Bonjour!

I just finished my last exam! For this term that is. I'm sitting on my bed enjoying a glass of wine and watching some tv before I doze off and get some much needed sleep! I can't wait for summer to begin and I'm loving this mild weather. Sorry no outfit posts yet, I haven't been thinking about taking pictures but I have been putting some thought into my outfits which is a big step! I've made lots of purchases that I can't wait to share with you all. I'm also on the hunt for the most perfect mary janes and booties.... which I haven't been able to find in two years! So wish me luck and I look forward to waking up to mornings like these!

Oh Happy Day!!!

I have a special announcement for all the ladies out there (although I'm sure the gentlemen will enjoy this too): Victoria's Secret will be opening stores in Canada this summer!!! They will be opening a location in Edmonton and one in Toronto at Yorkdale Mall in August. I love the Victoria's Secret fashion shows and I have bought quite a few things online but I can't wait for an actual store!!!

Speaking of online shopping, I've indulged in a few items and will share them with you. Once my exams are done on Monday, a few outfit posts are to come, a spring cleaning post and a few other things I've been planning but haven't quite started. I look forward to making many more and regular posts!

Keep Calm... Have a Cupcake!!!

Bonjour!

I think I'm going through a cupcake withdrawl.. I haven't had one since my birthday.. That is a very long time. This coming from a girl who's lunch consists of a tall skinny vanilla latte and TWO chocolate bloom cupcakes from Starbucks. (Triple Grande Extra Hot no Foam Skinny Vanilla Latte is my breakfast.. I need the extra espresso shots!) I cannot wait for my exams to be over and to have a clean room again. My room is covered in piles of clothes and an organized mess of piles of papers and notes. I have to get back to my studying but maybe tomorrow I will indulge in a cupcake and Shoppers is having 20x the points!! I need to go and pick up some perfume, I'm running dangerously low. Can you guess which one it is?

I got Miss Cherie Dior as a Christmas gift from my uncle probably 4 years ago and I fell in love and so did everyone else around me. I have tried some other scents (Viva La Juicy is another fave) but I keep going back to this and everyone says it smells like me, which I will take as a compliment :). So now you know where my blog name came from and the fleur means flower in french and I LOVE flowers. I will try very hard to look put together for my exams as I hate when people let themselves go. My first university exam consisted of a huge convention hall filled with rows of nervous students that were pretty much in sweat pants and sweaters and didn't smell so nice :S. So, to all exam writers out there: Good Luck on your exams and please at least shower! Besides, you tend to feel more confident and refreshed when you're freshly showered and put together.

I'll try to take some pics of my outfits during my exams.. thank goodness I don't have an exam until Thursday so I don't have to pull any major cram sessions. Be back soon!

I've spent the past week writing an exam (fingers crossed I did well), working a little and doing a little shopping. I got some great stuff and many pictures will follow. For now, I've gotta get back to studying... 3 more exams and then I can look forward to my summer holidays!! I'll be working a lot this summer and doing some school in the summer :( but.... I will be going to Florida in May and Vegas sometime after that. I can't wait! These vacations will much needed. It's supposed to rain this weekend but I look forward to sharing my new puppy with you all. His name is Coco and he is adorable!!! Stay tuned.

The festivities continue.....

Yesterday I continued the birthday festivities by going to this french patisserie place (I'll save the details for another post) and had the most amazing roasted corn soup EVER!! I need to hunt down this recipe! I went there to grab some dessert, which is absolutely amazing, but I was so hungry that I decided to have lunch there as well and I was very impressed! Later on in the evening I went for sushi with one of my girlies, which was also amazing... All in all, I was very spoiled yesterday and I loved it! (My tummy was definately happy!) Unfortunately, I didn't get to take any pics of my outfit, which is a shame because I wore a cute skirt, but you will see my skirt on this blog one day very soon. It's raining .... but I don't mind!

Bonjour!

I created this blog about a month ago and couldn't figure out what my first post would be so I decided to celebrate my blog's birthday with my birthday! So Happy Birthday Blog and Happy 21st Birthday to me! I spent the day grabbing some coffee, cupcakes and going to class :(

Although it was raining and gloomy outside, I still managed to have a great time! I'm trying out this whole "positive attitude thing" and it's been working out so far! And since it was raining, I decided to get decked out in my rain gear! How can you not be happy with a hot pink umbrella?!
